Manchester Police/Fire: Storm surge closes Ocean Street

MANCHESTER — The high winds of Hurricane Sandy knocked down trees causing several problems Monday.

And the storm surge at high tide had the sea flowing up and over Ocean Street, prompting police to close the roadway between 10:19 p.m. and 1:30 a.m.

A tree fell across the railroad tracks Monday about 2:55 p.m. during the high winds of Hurricane Sandy.

Police notified the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officials, but said the downed tree had little impact since train service had been suspended about 2 p.m.

National Grid was notified of a fallen branch on School Street that downed power lines, knocking out electricity to many residents Monday about 4:47 p.m.

A tree fell and hit a house at 40 School St. on Monday about 5:09 p.m. Police checked the scene after the tree fell and reported that the house was stable and no one was injured.
