ROCKPORT — These municipal meetings, open to the public, are scheduled this week in Rockport:

Today

Budget Subcommittee of Rockport School Committee, 6, p.m., School Superintendant's Office.

Superintendent Search Committee, 6:30 p.m., Rockport Middle and High School library, Jerden's Lane.

Tuesday

Community Preservation Committee, 7, Police Station.

Wednesday

Conservation Commission, 7 p.m., Town Hall, Conference Room A

DPW Commissioners, 7 p.m., Rockport Public Library, Trustees Room.

Thursday

School and Finance committees, 7 p.m., Rockport Public Library, Brenner Room. Joint session.

Planning Board, 7:30 p.m., Town Hall Annex.

Goodwin gets a standing ovation from the entire school population during the surprise party at Newell Stadium.

A principal's surprise

Gloucester High School Principal William Goodwin, who had, unknown to school's students, unexpectedly left building around midday Thursday, was told he had to come back to address an unknown "emergency." And when he arrived, seeing the students outside the building led him to believe there had been an evacuation.

Wellspring honors women

Wellspring House of Gloucester held its 14th Annual Women Honoring Women Luncheon earlier this month with over 670 in attendance.
This year's honorees were long-time Wellspring volunteer Betsy Brown of Manchester, The Open Door's Executive Director Julie LaFontaine of Essex, and Barbara Lynch, one of Boston's and the country's leading chefs and restaurateurs. Lynch also was the keynote speaker.

Parades, tributes to mark Memorial Day

All of Cape Ann's communities will be marking Memorial Day on Monday with ceremony and services to commemorate those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
Gloucester's program will have a new look, even as a traditional part of the event has been has been reinstated.
