Rockport Police/Fire: Police probe theft of 'messenger' bag from car

ROCKPORT — A resident reported a brown, messenger-style bag stolen from a vehicle at Wednesday night.

The person reportedly left the bag in the front passenger seat before entering the Cumberland Farms convenience store on Railroad Avenue just before 7.

When the person returned to the vehicle a short time later, the bag was gone.

The victim told police that there were two men who "were acting strange" in the parking lot just prior to the incident. Police searched the area but were unable to find the men, one of whom was described as being extremely tall and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white pattern. Both men appeared to be in their early 20s, police said.

The vehicle had apparently been left unlocked, police added, as there were no signs of forced entry.

A carbon monoxide detector activation at a Marmion Way residence at 1:16 p.m. Wednesday proved to be a false alarm. Police believe a contractor working at the home accidentally triggered the alert.

Rockport Ambulance transported a woman from Main Street to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester at 8:30 Thursday morning.
