The book fair at Rockport Elementary School has high goals, with students taking part in the schoolwide “Get Fit for Lit” effort.
The students’ “reading fitness” comes from an effort to read 10,000 pages, collectively, ending on March 1, Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
Each student will be visiting the book fair with their class, the dates are set for Feb. 26 through Feb. 28., open after school on Feb. 28 until 5 p.m.
The book fair is in cooperation with Toad Hall Book Store and New England Mobile Book Fair.
Among the casualties of last weekend’s blizzard were back-to-back Friday-Saturday headlining performances by Cape Ann’s own Chelsea Berry at Rockport Music’s Shalin Liu Performance Center. But those shows have been rescheduled, and are now set for March 1 and 2 at 8 p.m.
Back by popular demand, singer-songwriter Berry’s presence has been described by listeners as “compelling… she draws the entire house into her world like moths to a flame.” Combined with her acoustical guitar skills, Berry will charm audiences with popular hits as well as original songs, including pieces from her own, original CD “I Wonder.”
Chelsea has performed at many of New England’s most renowned listening rooms, including: House of Blues in Boston, Tupelo Hall in New Hampshire and Vermont and The Firehouse in Newburyport. And she has opened for Cheryl Wheeler, Livingston Taylor, Chris Smither, Roger McGuinn, Patty Larkin, Vance Gilbert, Buskin and Batteau, Jill Sobule, Marshall Crenshaw, Chris Isaak, and many others.
The opening act will be the Dejas; tickets range from $19 to $34.
