GLOUCESTER — An Ipswich woman told police that a purse containing credit cards and cash and other items were stolen from her vehicle while it was parked on Friend Street Friday about 1:17 a.m.
Police said that the woman parked her vehicle on the street for 45 minutes while visiting a friend and when she returned to the vehicle, the driver’s side door was ajar.
Police said there were no witnesses to the theft, but an officer patrolled that area for the remainder of his shift. It was unclear whether the car’s door had been locked.
A 57-year-old Rockport man was transported for detoxification to Addison Gilbert Hospital after police found him sitting on a bench, bleeding from the head on Rogers Street Thursday at 1:20 p.m.
Police said the Hydeway Place man was “highly intoxicated” and had stepped off a curb, fallen and hit his head, causing a small laceration above his right eye. There were no charges filed.
A grease fire at the Action, Inc. homeless shelter drew police and firefighters to the scene Thursday about 6:47 p.m. According to police. Firefighters put out the fire and vented out the smoke, while diverting pedestrians from the area.
Officers transported Holly M. Brewer, 31, of Perkins Street to Gloucester District Court Friday, after picking up the woman on a warrant of apprehension, according to police.
A 17-year-old Shepherd Street girl received a citation for driving on the wrong side of the road after she allegedly “cut off” a police officer when making an improper turn from Railroad Avenue to Maplewood Avenue, according to the police report.
