A Salem man was arrested in Gloucester on charges of drunken driving Sunday about 4:25 a.m. — after an officer had already warned the man not to drive, according to the police report.
Police charged Dany Jose Chun, 31, of Broadway Street in Salem with drunken driving, unlicensed driving, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Police said officers first became aware of Chun driving erratically after another driver reported having seen him drive over a curb on Main Street, then park at the Thai Choice restaurant.
Police found Chun and another man at the restaurant’s parking lot, and both were having difficulty maintaining their balance, officers said. Police said Chun told officers he had worked at the restaurant for nine years, but presented a Guatemalan driver’s license as identification, as he did not have a Massachusetts driver’s license.
Police said officers advised Chun and the other man to walk home — and informed Chun that his license is invalid, since he said he had been living in Massachusetts for nine years.
But later, while patrolling the area, the same officer saw Chun back at his car in the parking lot, according to police. Police said the officer saw Chun driving toward the curb and used the police cruiser to block Chun, who reversed back into the lot. According to police, the officer had to struggle and force Chun from the vehicle after telling Chun he was under arrest.
Police and Fire Department paramedics aided a Cabot Lane man who had a “large laceration” in his right hand after a chainsaw accident at his home Saturday about 2:48 p.m., according to police. Police said once the man’s health stabilized, they transported him to Beverly Hospital for further treatment.
A 22-year-old Essex Avenue woman was arrested for driving a vehicle without an active license Sunday about 2:32 a.m.
Police said an officer stopped Alyse L. Serrin at the corner of Prospect and Washington Streets after seeing her driving without headlights on Maplewood Avenue in the early hours of morning, then arrested Serrin for driving with a suspended license. Serrin told police she was driving a drunk friend home, police said.
