Gloucester Police/Fire

GLOUCESTER- A Hiltz garbage truck driver backed the trash truck into a Watertown woman’s vehicle on Western Avenue Thursday about 12:47 p.m., which “heavily damaged” the woman’s vehicle, according to police.

No injuries resulted from the crash, police said.

The garbage truck driver told police he did not see the woman’s vehicle behind him, and had driven the vehicle in reverse in order to return to a stop on his route that he had accidentally passed. No charges were filed, according to a police report.

Police and firefighters responded to a report of leaves burning out of control in an outdoor fire pit at a Chestnut Street residence Thursday about 4:27 p.m., according to police.

Firefighters used a garden hose to help three teenagers extinguish the leaf fire the teens had started, according to police. Police said a teenager and two friends burning the leaves told an officer they were unaware of rules against such burning and had not expected leaf burning would result in so much smoke.

A car crashed into head stone at Calvary Cemetery, damaging both the headstone and the vehicle Thursday about 3:11 p.m., according to police. Police said no injuries resulted from the crash. The driver had hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to crash into the head-stone, according to the police report
