Bringing an Orange Leaf to life

The owners of a new Orange Leaf frozen yogurt franchise they plan to open in May have begun their effors to round their building into shape.

Renovation work began last week on the freestanding structure at the Rogers Street front of the Main Street plaza that houses Walgreen’s, Dunkin Donuts and other shops. The building is being leased from site owner and well-known Gloucester developer Mac Bell by the trio of Orange Leaf franchise owners — Eric Broadhurst, Dennis Metayar, and 1985 Gloucester High School graduate Sean Nickerson.

The Orange Leaf enterpreneurs aren’t converting the building from a previous use; in fact, Bell had never had a viable tenant for the little building, which Bell had built after tearing down a freestanding, brick water dispensary that had long stood on the site in 2008.

The $300,000 in renovations to the 1,500-square-foot building, according to Broadhurst, will add on a 400 square foot patio and convert building’s shell — which still had dirt floors — into the Orange Leaf, which will feature 75 flavors of frozen yogurt.

The business will remain open year round on a daily basis, he said.
