Gloucester Police/Fire: Officers free a stressed Chihuahua

GLOUCESTER — Police rescued a “dog in distress,” after a Chihuahua became entangled in the tassels of a throw blanket at a Wheeler Street home Thursday about 1:26 a.m.

According to the police report, when officers arrived, the blanket’s tassels were cutting off blood circulation to the dog’s leg, but an officer was able to free the leg and the dog appeared fine afterward.

A 20-year-old Starknaught Heights man was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital after he injured his hand by punching a tree Wednesday about 7:44 p.m., according to police.

The man told police he had been arguing with his girlfriend and when she left the area in a vehicle, he became angry and hit the tree, police said.

Police are following up a report of vandalism at the Eastern Avenue Shaw’s that reportedly occurred Wednesday about 1:45 p.m., police said.

A surveillance video shows four teenage girls throwing gallons of milk against the store floor, causing the bottles to break open and spill out the milk in a prank called “gallon smashing,” according to police. Police said the girls seemed to have filmed the incident with a camera phone then left the store on foot.
