Letter: Time to free government's hostages

To the editor:

It is very true that America is being held hostage.

However, it is not by the usual list of bogeymen that some people falsely, mindlessly and repeatedly accuse.

America is being held hostage by big government. Big government has disregarded the desires of the people on many critical issues. They have voted on numerous bills against the will of the people.

The biggest current issue is Obamacare. Yet a Democrat majority voted it into law without even knowing the contents of the bill. Most did not even read it. At the time, the American people were against it in every credible poll.

As the actual contents of bill became public knowledge, countless exemptions/waivers were asked for and granted to the same people who originally supported it. Congress voted to exempt themselves from this law and obtained subsidies for their staff. Obama has repeatedly and illegally changed the law in an attempt to make it less of a disaster then it is.

None of the claims made by Obama about this bill are proving to be correct. It will cost much more than promised and will crush our weak economy even more. People are losing their medical benefits or are paying much more for a reduced medical plan. People are losing their full time jobs and the “lucky ones” are able to work part time. Currently in every credible poll, the American people are against Obamacare. It has to be stopped.

Alternative ways exist that provide reasonable health coverage for most of the people but Obamacare is definitely not one of them. The only way to stop this monstrosity of a bill is to defund it.

The Republicans in the House were overwhelmingly voted in and kept in to stop Obamacare. Their spending bills have been repeatedly put forward to fund the government but not Obamacare.
