Rockport Police/Fire: Police sound warnings on potential scam calls

Rockport Police/Fire

ROCKPORT — Police are advising residents to be aware if someone comes to the door or makes an unsolicited phone call or email offering discount prices on asphalt or building materials.

The initial contact soon leads to a high pressure approach, which can be confusing and people may even try to take residents to the bank to withdraw money.

Contact the Rockport Police Department at 978-546-1212 if you are feel you may be the victim of a scam. Spring and summer mark an increase in paving and home repair scams, police said.

Police retrieved what officers say appears to be a discarded or stolen bicycle off of Atlantic Avenue Thursday at 12:50 p.m.

Police said a motorist reportedly tossed the bicycle from a moving vehicle. Police said, however, there are no recent reports of a stolen bicycle in town.

Police said there were no injuries Friday in a car accident on Main Street shortly after 9 a.m.

One motorist rear ended another, but there were no citations by police. One car was towed from the area.

An accidental burglar alarm sounded on Point De Chene Thursday at 12:45 p.m., according to police.

Thursday night at 9:30 a woman from Curtis Street was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester.
