Loud mouths mean emptier wallets for men

Gloucester District Court

Two Gloucester men must pay fines for raising their voices.

William R. Polinsky, 49, of Main Street pleaded guilty Monday to violating a municipal ordinance. Judge Joseph Jennings ordered Polinsky, whose screaming and yelling in the street led to his arrest, to pay a $100 fine on the charge.

Jose E. Sanchez, 40, and listed as homeless, also pleaded guilty to violating a municipal ordinance. He was charged in an incident inside Gloucester’s TD Banknorth where he began yelling at a clerk he was arguing with. Jennings ordered Sanchez to pay a $70 fine.

Donald C. Mahoney, a 19-year-old Melrose man, faced nine charges in court Tuesday, all resulting from an incident in December where he used a van without permission in Rockport then jumped from it to flee from police, leaving the van to roll into a Main Street home.

Mahoney pleaded guilty to using the vehicle without permission, failing to stop for police, reckless driving and unlicensed driving.

Jennings found that he admitted to sufficient facts on charges of receiving stolen property and wanton property destruction, but continued those two charges without a finding until January 2015.

Jennings dismissed charges of leaving the scene of property damage and of a bylaw violation. He found Mahoney not responsible for a speeding charge.

Mahoney was ordered to pay restitution of $500 to the van owner and $1,000 to the homeowner. He was also ordered to pay $180 in assessments and fees and placed on probation until January 2015. He is prohibited from using drugs or alcohol during his probation and can be subject to random screens.

Jennings sentenced him to eight months in Middleton Jail, with 60 days to be served and the balance suspended 18 months. Jennings determined Mahoney already served those 60 days while awaiting trial.
