Rockport Ramblings: Money from Beverly walk reaches Rockport, too

Although the annual Good Friday Walk was held in Beverly, some of the money raised from that event finds its way directly to Rockport and Gloucester as well.

The walk is organized in part by Rockport resident Alan Battistelli, who said his family started the Good Friday walk 34 years ago. Rockport resident Ron Roma also covered the cost of T-shirts for the participants.

Last year, 440 participants walked the 10.5 mile route and raised $68,081, with more than $16,000 directly benefiting Cape Ann nonprofits such as Action Inc. and local families.

Cemetery cleanup time on Monday

It’s that time of year again, and Rockport residents are urged to catch the spring cleaning fever.

With that in mind, the Rockport Department of Public Works is hosting the annual cleaning of the cemeteries this coming Monday.

All winter baskets, decorations, wreaths and artificial flowers must be removed by that time, DPW officials said.
