MANCHESTER — A Manchester police sergeant is being credited with saving a local man from drowning around 2:15 p.m. Monday off Harbor Street.

According to police, the man — who police did not identify — was knocked off his boat, emergency units were dispatched to the area after receiving multiple phone calls.

Police Sgt. Todd Fitzgerald borrowed a civilian boat from Crocker’s boat yard and tied the resident to the boat and pulled him out of the water.

Police said the man was in severe shock and was later transported to Beverly Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, according to police.

Around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, police received reports of a man walking from Gloucester to Manchester along the commuter rail tracks in the area of Sea Street. Police responded, but could not find any such walker.

Tuesday, just after 12 p.m., police received reports of an erratic operator on Route 128 south bound, but were unable to find anyone when they arrived.
