ROCKPORT — A man was transported to Beverly Hospital early Tuesday following a motorcycle crash on Granite Street near Halibut Point State Park.
An officer on routine patrol in the area came upon a motorcycle in disarray near a three-foot rock wall at the intersection of Granite and Gott streets at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday,
The only sign of an operator, however, was a mangled helmet and single shoe left behind at the crash site.
They found the motorcyclist at his home nearby and called an ambulance.
Police did not identify the driver Tuesday citing that the case is still under investigation.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said, adding charges stemming from the incident are likely forthcoming.
A lightning strike at the Rockport Police Station knocked out radio communications for a short time Wednesday morning. The lightning was a result of a strong line of thunderstorms associated with a cold front that hit the area around 7:30 a.m.
A Summer Street Court man reported tools missing from a storage area on his property at 6:31 Tuesday morning. Police took pictures at the scene Tuesday and the larceny remained under investigation Wednesday.
An elderly man drove into a trailer on Granite Street at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday. The impact tore the exterior, passenger side door panel off of the man's vehicle and caused damage to the trailer as well but both vehicles were able to leave the scene under their own power, police said.
Both drivers exchanged information at the police station following the crash. There were no reported injuries and no charges are expected to be filed, police added.
Police also responded to a "minor" fender-bender on Railroad Avenue at 7:50 Tuesday night. The two drivers exchanged information, police said.
Rockport Ambulance transported a Thatcher Road resident to Addison Gilbert Hospital at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday.
