Gloucester Police/Fire: Four-car crash shuts down Extension

Gloucester Police/Fire

A four-vehicle crash on the Route 128 Extension sent at least one person to the hospital, and forced the shutdown of the Extension to traffic between Blackburn Circle and the Eastern Avenue lights Friday afternoon.

Beauport Ambulance transported one person to Beverly Hospital, according to the Fire Department, after two vehicles collided head on shortly before 4 p.m., then had two other cars crash into the collision near the entrance to Gloucester Crossing.

A full report on the crash was unavailable as of Friday night.

A man called police to report that a refrigerator had been discarded in another person’s private driveway, saying he was concerned a child might get trapped inside the refrigerator Friday about 6:27 a.m.

Police told the man that the person whose property the refrigerator is on must take care of it, but noted that a city bylaw dictates that the door should be removed before such an appliance is pegged for disposal.

A 33-year-old Gloucester woman initially reported as missing Thursday afternoon was located later in the evening.

The woman, listed as homeless, had attended a concert in Danvers with a man and the two were arguing on the way home, when he stopped the vehicle on Route 114 and let her out.

The woman, barefoot, crossed over to the other side of the highway, and the man saw her get into another vehicle with a person unknown to him. The woman’s mother reported her missing at 1:40 p.m. but later located her at a friend’s home at 8:15 p.m.
