Soaring over Stage Fort

Paragliders make most of park's slope

---- — Dave Pugh, a Whitwell, Tenn., resident visiting Gloucester and Cape Ann earlier this week, not only took the opportunity to enjoy his favorite sport of paragliding — he offered lessons to a friend, Gloucester resident Laurent Cros.

Pugh, who owns a company called Cloudhouse Paragliding, was practicing technique and providing insight to Cros, who is vice president for aftermarket and service operations at Gloucester Engineering, on the waterfront park’s gentle slope.

From his home base in the Appalachian Mountains, Pugh said, he typically soars to altitudes of 6,000 to 9,000 feet. They didn’t come close to reaching those heights here, but that didn’t diminish the fun.
