Rockport Ramblings: Yard sale closes Old Sloop Fair

The Old Sloop Fair at the First Congregational Church of Rockport on School Street is concluding today with a giant yard sale, rain or shine.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., come on down and pick from furniture, toys and sporting goods, kitchen and dining ware, tools, electronics, art, and items that were overlooked at last weekend’s silent auction.

Lobsterfest is on

The weather has been right and there has already been plenty of summer activities around Cape Ann, but nothing signifies summertime in Rockport like Lobsterfest.

On Aug. 10 from 3 to 7 p.m., the Rotary Club of Rockport will be serving lobster dinners, which include the lobster, clam chowder, corn on the cob, a roll, some watermelon and a drink.

Everyone is welcome to the American Legion Hall on Back Beach, there will also be live entertainment by the Cape Ann Jazz Band.

The cash menu, running from 3 to 9 p.m., includes hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, beer and wine.

Proceeds to benefit the Rotary Club of Rockport’s community service projects.

Band back at Back Beach

The Rockport Legion Band continues its 80th season of free summer concerts at the Back Beach Bandstand on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Kids are welcome; bring chairs or sit on the grass, and popcorn and cold drinks are available.

Game on in Rockport

The Rockport Recreation Committee is hosting a three-on-three basketball tournament for anyone entering Grades 5 through 8 on Aug. 1.

The tournament will have 8 teams, and each team will have to pay $30 for a registration fee; the two winning teams will receive gift certificates to Olympia Sports.

Players will face off at the Rockport High School outdoor basketball court.
