Gloucester Police/Fire: Woman taken to hospital after crash

Gloucester Police/Fire

A 24-year-old Essex Avenue woman who was driving a 2012 Mazda that rolled over on Rogers Street after striking a parked vehicle Tuesday night was transported to Beverly Hospital after the crash.

The woman was driving west on Rogers Street near Gorton’s about 11:30 p.m. when she “swerved” into a parked vehicle, then rolled, landing on its roof, police said. When officers arrived on scene, a 25-year-old passenger had already exited the vehicle, and the driver was exiting the car.

Police said officers noted a “strong odor of alcohol” on the driver’s breath. All cars were towed from the scene, and police were still investigating the crash Wednesday morning.

Police have been conducting checks on the backside of the Cruiseport parking lot since a Sea and Shore Construction company reported diesel fuel missing from three machines and requested police keep an eye on the area Tuesday about 3:30 p.m.

Police responding to a report of a suspicious man “hanging around” the Veterans Memorial school Tuesday about 8:48 a.m., checked the 31-year-old homeless man for active warrants and, finding none, told him to leave and not return to the school property.
