Thousands revel at 2013's first Block Party

Thousands revel at 2013's first Block Party

The predicted thunderstorms and heavy rains never materialized over Gloucester’s downtown.

The crowds of residents and visitors, however, did.

And, despite the last ripples of the week-long heat wave, thousands turned out Saturday night for the first of three Downtown Block Parties, that once again transformed the western half of Main Street end its side streets into a pedestrian mall of outdoor dining, street entertainment, three musical stages, performances at the Dog Bar and the Franklin, and an array of games and other events for families and children.

If you missed it, don’t fret. The second Block Party of the summer is set for Saturday, Aug, 17; the third and final event in this, the sixth year of the parties, planned for the turnover day from summer to fall on Saturday, Sept. 21.
