Essex Police/Fire: Coyotes make themselves at home in Essex field

ESSEX — Officers received several reports of coyotes in the field off John Wise Avenue Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

Police responded and found the animals 200 yards off the road.

The coyotes, officers said, weren't bothering anyone, and police said they were simply left alone.

A Belcher Street resident reported to police at 5:07 p.m. Thursday that, while he was working in his yard, someone apparently made off with a number of yard tools he had left at the other side of his property. Police are investigating.

Police on patrol confronted several 17-year-olds riding bicycles on Southern Avenue at 9:10 p.m. Thursday. The youths were sent on their way and told not to ride in the dark.

A Grove Street resident called police at 11:08 p.m. Thursday to report a strange "humming" noise outside her home.

Police found the noise came from a carpet cleaning company working at Shea's Riverside restaurant. They received a second call about the noise at 12:23 a.m. on Friday, and told the company to wrap it up.
