Scandinavian summer

Local lodge hosts festival celebrating roots

ROCKPORT — The town’s Scandanavian roots were showing this weekend.

Spiran Lodge 98 hosted its Midsummer Fest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Harvey Park at corner of Broadway and Mount Pleasant Street.

There was Scandinavian folk music and dancing, children’s activities, Scandinavian gift table and more. And of course, there was food, ranging from Swedish meatballs to strawberries and cream, to nisu and coffee.

Spiran Lodge, found in 1906, is the local chapter of the Vasa Order of America, a Swedish American fraternal organization. Anyone of Scandinavian descent who is interested in joining the lodge may email info@spiranlodge98.org for more information.
