Ringing in the harvest

A farmers market, a festival showcasing historic house tours and other attractions all came together around Gloucester’s Middle Street Saturday for the second annual Cape Ann Farmers Thanksgiving Harvest Market and Harvest Festival, centered on the Unitarian Universalist and St. John’s churches along Middle Street.

The festival essentially combined the special farmers market - an extension of the Cape Ann Farmers’ Market held each Thursday throughout the summer in State Fort Park — with the Middle Street Harvest fest and the Country Cupboard Fair, which included tours and a book sale at Sargent House Museum, storytime festivities at Sawyer Free Library and tours of the new Temple Ahavat Achim, with music by David Wesson.

The event concluded with the Harvest for Grace Concert, “Celtic Music of the Sea & Season,” at the Unitarian Universalist Church, which, like St. John’s, is a host to the church-based Grace Center program for the homeless.
