Essex Police/Fire: Gunshots draw Essex response

Essex Police/Fire

ESSEX — Residents reported hearing gunshots on Thanksgiving Day, as police received two different calls about the noise.

At 7:13 a.m., Harlow Street residents reported hearing gunshots. Police checked the area and asked neighbors, but found nothing.

That afternoon, at 1:49, police also responded to calls on John Wise Avenue near the Cape Ann Golf Course, but again, could not find any sign of gunfire.

Sgt. Paul Francis said he believes both cases likely involved people hunting.

On the night of Nov. 21, police responded to a Western Avenue resident’s report of hearing the sound of breaking glass.

When police arrived, they found pieces of broken headlights on the street. Officers believe the glass may have stemmed from a motor vehicle accident that was not reported.

Employees of Dunkin Donuts on Main Street called police at 10:19 a.m. Wednesday to report a case of vandalism.

Police said the front door had been shot with paintballs.

Police responded to a Choate Street resident who was complaining about a barking dog at 5:03 a.m. Friday. Police could not locate the homeowner, but the animal control officer was notified and later spoke with the owner, police said.

The Fire Department’s ambulance squad transported a Westen Avenue woman to Beverly Hospital Friday at 8:10 a.m.
