---- — Fresh off the celebration of Thanksgiving, Gloucester’s Action Inc. service agency has launched its annual Project Uplift holiday toy and clothing drive, with a variety of collection points at businesses and other sites bearing big white boxes and the green Action Project Uplift logo.

Montagnino Real Estate and The Hive — Cape Ann Art Haven’s community center, adjacent to the Action Inc. offices on Pleasant Street — have donated space to serve as Project Uplift’s headquarters. The project seeks to bring together community members to help alleviate the stress that comes from choosing between Christmas gifts, rent, and groceries, by participating in the Action Inc. toy and clothing drive for disadvantaged children.

“Look for the big white boxes with the green Action Project Uplift logo, and drop off new, unwrapped toys and clothing appropriate for ages 0-14,” said Jessica Benedetto-Unger, Action Inc.’s director of marketing & planning.

Donations in the form of gift cards and checks are also graciously accepted and can be dropped off or mailed to Action, Inc. at 180 Main St., Gloucester. To donate online and to view the full list of Project Uplift donation sites, visit actioninc.org.

Any and all donations will help Action, Inc. provide gifts to more than 700 local children in need. Last year, 739 children received gifts through Project Uplift, with 72 local businesses and organizations serving as donation collection sites.

Also, anyone who has a child under 15 years of age and is in need of assistance this season can download and print an application online at http://actioninc.org/projectuplift.html. Applications are also available at Action, Inc., 180 Main St., Gloucester, and at The Hive, 11 Pleasant Street, Gloucester.

Children receiving gifts must be 14 years old or younger and must live in Gloucester, Essex, Ipswich, Manchester-by-the-Sea, or Rockport.

In addition to Project Uplift, Action, Inc. offers a wide range of services for economically disadvantaged individuals and families. Learn more at actioninc.org or call 978-282-1000.

In addition, the North Shore 104.9 toy drive, led by state Sen. Bruce Tarr, is set for Thursday, Dec. 13 and will culminate at Cape Ann Savings Bank at around 5 or 6 p.m. Donations from the 104.9 drive are also contributed to Action, Inc. as part of the Project Uplift drive.
