Local youth in free concerts

Several Cape Ann youths will perform Sunday when the Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras present “An Afternoon of Concerts” at the Ipswich Performing Arts Center in Ipswich.

Playing will be cellist Jiata Richon and violinists Brooks Richon and Bianca Tocco, all of Gloucester; violist Tyler Quade of Manchester; and cellists N. Gilman Clark and Jace Mason, violinists Carly Moulton, Megan Welcome and Sophie Palmer, and flutist Z. Lily Perry, all of Rockport.

The afternoon will be split into two concerts, one at 2:30 and the other at 5. The earlier concert will feature the NMYO Prelude and Overture String Ensembles, Intermezzo Orchestra, Junior Flute Choir, and Flute Choir. The later concert will feature the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Select Flute Choir. This event will be the first full-length concert of NMYO’s 2012-2013 season.

Music Director Gerald Dolan said music by Holst, Kalinnikov, Mozart, and many other fine composers will be performed. Funding for this event is provided in part by Institution for Savings.

“An Afternoon of Concerts” is free to the public. All NMYO concerts are family-friendly, and are a great way to expose children to orchestral music in a comfortable setting while supporting the musical training of the area’s finest young musicians. A reception provided by NMYO families will be held between the two concerts.
