Rockport Ramblings: Concerts coming to schools

Music is a deciding factor in holiday spirit levels; you either get sick of the music too early in the season, or it can be the tool to help get someone in the holiday spirit.

Rockport is investing in the latter and having several holiday concerts.

First comes a Dec. 13 concert featuring the middle school orchestra and chorus winter concert at the Shalin Liu Performance Center at 7 p.m.

On Monday, the high school orchestra will be performing along with the Madrigal Chorus at 7 p.m. in the John Lane Auditorium.

The elementary school orchestra will have its chance to wow audience members in the same auditorium on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

Finally, both the middle and high school bands will have their winter concert on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the John Lane Auditorium as well.

Ring in the holidays

The New England Ringers will be performing classical and holiday favorites on Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. at the Shalin Liu. This 15-member highly energetic ensemble plays advanced hand bell works with different musical styles and techniques.

Tickets are $28, $22 and $15 and on sale at the Shalin Liu Performance Center box office, 15 Main St., or online at

Resident releases ebook

Robert Ellis, who is active throughout Cape Ann and is a member of Rockport Rotary Club, has now released an ebook as well.

His book, “A Collision of Truths: A Life In Conflict With A Cherished Faith,” was released in traditional print format back in 2008, but is now available on the Kindle for $3.99 or on the Nook and iPad for $3.51.

Ellis’s book details his upbringing as a Christian and his battle with faith as an adult.

Volunteers needed

Want something changed in Rockport? Want to have your voice heard or just want to get more involved in town affairs? There is no better opportunity to get your message to the masses than holding public office.
