Essex Police/Fire: Gloucester woman facing assault charge

---- — ESSEX — A Gloucester woman is facing an assault and battery charge, resulting from an investigation by Essex police.

A woman came into the police station on Saturday, June 29, to report an incident that took place the day before, on June 28, at a Western Avenue business.

The woman told police she was grabbed by Alison B. Portalla, 36, of Duncan Street in Gloucester. Police filed a criminal complaint against Portalla in court.

In other news from the logs of the Essex Police and Fire departments:

An Ipswich man, Ryan Lawlor, 19, of Kinsman Court, was stopped for speeding on Western Avenue on Saturday just past 1 a.m. He was charged with possession of marijuana, greater than one ounce, after the stop.

Youths congregated at Centennial Grove just before 10 p.m. Saturday were cited for possessing less than one ounce of marijuana.

Both police and firefighters responded Monday at 11:48 a.m. to a car fire at John Wise Avenue residence. The fire was extinguished.

On Saturday around 7:44 p.m., a Newburyport resident reported a debit card missing and possibly lost in town.
