MANCHESTER — A Wakefield man, captured after a foot chase in woods off Route 128, is facing a drunken driving charge.
Local and state police were called to the southbound side of Route 128 in the area of Pine Street after a car went into the woods Monday around 8:45 p.m.
State police said 21-year-old Derek Whitaker of Wakefield had driven a 1987 Mercedes Benz off the road into the woods, and tried to escape on foot.
He was apprehended soon after and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a crash which resulted in property damage.
The car was towed from the area.

An Elm Street man was arrested on a charge of being disorderly Tuesday around 1:30 a.m.
An officer in the area said he found Amor Afife, 30, screaming in the middle of the street.
Police assisted a driver maneuvering a truck, so it would not hit the Lincoln Street Bridge, at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday.
