MANCHESTER — A fire on a 23-foot Mako boat in Manchester Harbor off Crocker’s Boatyard was extinguished by the boaters and bystanders Wednesday about 1:29 p.m., according to firefighters.
According to police, the boat’s owners said the vessel was idling in the harbor when the outboard engine suddenly exploded, sending the motor cover into the air and sparking a fire.
The boat’s operator used a dry chemical fire extinguisher, stored on-board, to douse the flames, according to fire department officials.
Bystanders helped pull the boat to the dock, and used another dry chemical fire extinguisher to finish quashing the fire before firefighters arrived, according to police.
Officials said they did not know how many people were in the boat at the time of the accident. There were no reported injuries.
