A Gloucester man went through surgery and faces criminal charges after a visit to an ex-girlfriend’s home turned sour.
Police, answering a call at 6:55 p.m. Saturday about a man bleeding at 16 Spring St., found Daniel Ryan, 42, of 83 Prospect St. staunching a large cut on his arm with a towel.
A responding officer, trained as an emergency medical technician, saw that Ryan had cut an artery, and made a tourniquet out of the towel.
Paramedics were called and transported him to Lahey Clinic in Burlington where he underwent surgery.
Police spoke to a woman at the residence who said Ryan had showed up at her door intoxicated and she didn’t want him at the house.
She shut and locked the door on Ryan, who then punched through her front window, cutting his arm.
Police filed a criminal complaint against Ryan; he faces charges of domestic assault and malicious destruction of property.
Officers arrested two men on charges of heroin possession after they interrupted a drug deal on Railroad Avenue on Saturday afternoon.
Arrested on charges of heroin possession were Aran Poole, 28, of 29 School St., and Jose Rodriguez III 25, of 52 Warner St. Apt 3. Rodriguez also faces charges of heroin distribution. Police arrested the two after chasing them to Middle Street on Saturday at 5:16 p.m.
Thomas Freeman, 59, of 27 1/2 Exchange St. was arrested on a charge of assault and battery Sunday night after he allegedly struck a man in the face with a hammer. A man told police that Freeman attacked him outside of an Exchange Street residence after he followed some friends there. The man said he punched Freeman in the face at the same time Freeman hit him with the hammer.
The manager at the Wolf Hill Garden Center called police Saturday to report that $440 worth of items were stolen from the store overnight. The manager said that a windmill, large hay bale, small hay bale, four scarecrows, nine pumpkins, three sets of three scarecrows and three small scarecrows were taken.
Officers are investigating.
A Shepherd Street resident was charged after he allegedly used a knife to threaten a man sitting on his steps.
Police then charged the knife wielder, Christopher Merrill, age unknown, of 13 Shepherd St. with assault with a dangerous weapon after the incident on Friday evening.
The man who’d allegedly been threatened, told police he’d been sitting on the rear steps of 13 Shepherd St. when Merrill came with the knife and told him to get off his steps.
Merrill told police he’d wielded the knife because he wanted the man off his steps. Police confiscated the knife and arrested Merrill.
Mary Padgett, 60, of 20 Patriot’s Circle, was arrested on assault and battery charges after neighbors said she shoved and slapped a man on Veterans Way on Friday evening.
Police responding to 10 Veterans Way said a man told them Padgett arrived at his residence while yelling at another woman and her daughter.
The man, and several witnesses, claimed he took hold of Padgett’s arm to get her to stop yelling and told her to leave his porch.
According to them, Padgett then pushed and slapped the man across his chest.
Police arrested Padgett.
