---- — GLOUCESTER — Police said a bicyclist rode into the side of a city street sweeper vehicle as the sweeper turned from Washington Street onto North Kilby Street Friday about 5:17 p.m.

The street sweeper driver flagged down an officer on patrol and told him of the accident, according to police, who said the driver thought the patrol officer had come after hearing a report of the collision.

Police said the cyclist — who was thrown from his bicycle during the accident — had left by the time police came across the street sweeper. But the street sweeper told police the male cyclist got up from the ground after the accident and noted that the bicycle’s frame was bent from the collision, according to the police report.

A 55-year-old Florida woman was charged with drunken driving after her vehicle struck a pole on Washington Street Saturday about 2:43 p.m.

Police charged Carol C. Medcalfe of Miami with drunken driving, operating outside of license restrictions and operating a vehicle recklessly to endanger. Police said Medcalfe told officers at the scene she had been drinking the night before, and had taken a Vicodin pill four hours earlier.

Police arrested a 24-year-old Summit Street man and charged him with drunken driving after a person reported the man driving erratically on 128 North near exit 14.

Police said an officer stopped Stephen A. Parsons near the Exit 14 interchange and arrested him on the drunken driving charge as well as for a marked lanes violation and two prior warrants for his arrest.
