Church offers meditation, music Sunday

A physician and a harpist will lead “Music and Meditation in the Meetinghouse,” a program at the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church this Sunday.

Organizers said the event, part of a series, will offer a unique and varied experience of beautiful music and relaxing meditation in the Gloucester’s oldest standing church, located at the corner of Middle and Church streets.

“It is held in the candle-lit, early-evening setting of the church’s 1806 Sanctuary with golden light beaming through the stained glass windows,” organizers said.

Dr. Neil Williams recently moved to Gloucester from Cambridge, where he was a member of the Cambridge Insight Meditation center for 12 years; he is co-leader of People of Color Meditation Group in Cambridge.

“I ... share what little I have learned on my faith journey about life, the Dharma and the practice of mediation,’’ he said.

He will team up with harpist and singer Moira Kelly, also a Gloucester resident.

Following the event there will be a collation with light refreshments in the church’s Entrance House, giving participants the opportunity to meet Williams, Kelly, and each other.

The sanctuary is accessible for persons with disabilities via the Church Street entrance. A free-will offering will be received and everyone is welcome.

Detailed information about both presenters can be found on the church website www.gloucesteruu.org

More information about the event is available by contacting church administrator Karen Rembert at 978/283-3410, or emailing gloucesteruu@earthlink.net
