To clarify a Page 1 article in Wednesday’s paper, headlined “Lighting candles again at a vigil no one wants,” police Chief Leonard Campanello said that, while substance abuse programs have been cut, new programs have replaced them or undergone changes to keep up with this community issue.

In fact, Campanello said Gloucester has been awarded a regional grant to mentor two other communities with the city’s work in overdose prevention and substance abuse education. He said nasal Narcan is carried in the cruisers, all Fire Department apparatus and ambulances, and administered as needed. “We have no plans to discontinue the program,” Campanello said.

Due to an editor’s error, the “Rockport on the agenda” on Page 2 of Monday’s newspaper listed an incorrect meeting date for the Economic Development Committee. The meeting is actually scheduled for this coming Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7:15 p.m. in the Brenner Room in the Rockport Public Library.
