---- — A Gloucester woman is facing charges of assault and battery on two police officers and resisting arrest after she allegedly “kicked” and “pushed” officers who were arresting her on two warrants and serving her a harassment order Wednesday at her Warner Street home.

Rachael A. Maneatis, 35, allegedly kicked one officer in the groin, and kicked and pushed both officers as they tried to bring her downstairs and out of her apartment.

“Rachael Maneatis went ballistic,” police wrote in the report.

Maneatis was transported to Addison Gilbert Hospital after her arrest because police suspected she may have swallowed some pills.

Before allegedly assaulting police, Maneatis had allegedly locked herself inside her apartment and “burst out yelling and screaming” that she would not open the door and would not allow police to arrest her.

Animal control officers called for an exterminator to remove a hive of wasps “the size of a torso” from the area of 58 Cherry St. Wednesday about 2:24 p.m.

The Department of Public Works first reported the wasps on Tuesday, but the animal control officer anticipated that the insects would disperse on their own. When animal control checked the situation Wednesday morning, officers found a basketball-sized nest in the area.

Police said an animal control officer will stay in the area of the hive for public safety during the times when kids are leaving Beeman Memorial Elementary School nearby.

Firefighters evacuated both the Gloucester District Court and police station Wednesday and Thursday mornings to check on a gas odor, but meter readings that measure dangerous gasses came back negative both times.

Firefighters who responded during the late-morning hours Thursday learned that a gas boiler had been installed at a building next door, and thought the installation may have caused the odor.
