Body found identified as missing kayaker

MARBLEHEAD — Officials have confirmed that a body found in the waters off Gloucester and east of Marblehead on Monday afternoon is that of a Lynn man who disappeared while kayaking last month.

Maryan Lisovich, 23, was last seen leaving Swampscott on Sept. 8 in a kayak. The kayak was found, empty and washed up on Eisman Beach later that night.

An extensive search that included numerous public safety agencies failed to turn up Lisovich at the time, and it was eventually called off.

The body, which was in poor condition, was found four to five miles off shore.

Lisovich's body was spotted by a fishing boat yesterday afternoon, around 3:30 p.m. A Coast Guard boat pulled the body from the water, according to the District Attorney's office, and took it to Gloucester. From there, the body was sent to the medical examiner in Boston for identification.
