Gloucester Police/Fire: Woman bitten by own dog taken to hospital

Gloucester Police/Fire

A Taylor Street woman, bitten by her own dog, was transported to the hospital for treatment Tuesday about 4:15 p.m.

The woman told police she had been walking the 5-year-old husky and Labrador mix dog on a leash, when two unleashed dogs and their owner emerged from another Taylor Street apartment.

The woman’s dog became “defensive,” and when she tried to pull the dog away, she fell, police said. The dog bit her left ear, the back of her neck and her back area.

Neighbors returned the dog to her residence and were helping the woman when police and Gloucester Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.

Joel P. Catulo, a 35-year-old Anchor Lane man, was charged with driving after a license suspension when an officer stopped him on Main Street Wednesday about 9:55 a.m., police said.

According to the police report, Catulo was stopped after he drove by an officer who recognized him as a man whose license had been suspended.

Catulo told police the license had been suspended due to child support issues.

Police are filing a criminal complaint against a 33-year-old Millet Street woman, who is being charged with larceny under $250 for allegedly taking a purse belonging to an employee at the Washington Street Family Dollar store.

Surveillance footage at the store, viewed by police, allegedly captured video of Lea Scuderi taking an item from behind the service counter and placing it inside of a bag while the two employees had their backs turned. A receipt Scuderi had signed for returned items helped the employee further identify Scuderi, according to a police report.

A man related to Scuderi returned the purse about 45 minutes after police took a report, saying that they had found the purse in an aisle in the store, police said. Police said the only item apparently missing from the pocketbook was the woman’s Social Security card.
