Plenty to cheer about

GHS champs share sweet victory with classmates

The Gloucester High School co-ed cheerleading team had plenty to cheer about this week.

The team won a national championship last weekend at the Beach Bash Nationals held at Myrtle Beach, S.C., competing against 60 teams from around the country, according to their coach, Beth Costanzo. So this week, it was time to celebrate with cake and cupcakes shared with more than 100 of their fellow students.

The cake and cupcakes, which were devoured by both the team and other students in minutes, were baked by assistant coach Vanessa Cracchiolo. She baked 130 cupcakes of varying flavors and a large dark chocolate cake with vanilla icing and she did the lettering herself.

The team, which has 16 members, learned a whole new routine to new music for the competition and raised over $10,000 toward the trip. The team had last participated in this competition four years ago, coming in second place.
