ROCKPORT — Volunteers are needed to help eradicate an invasive plant that has taken root in town.
The Rockport Garden Club’s Knotweed Eradication Team, headed by Holly Yasaitis and Laura Hallowell, is scheduling an attack on the knotweed forest on the bank of Mill Pond on King Street. The team had a good group of volunteers to cut knotweed last fall, and it was destroyed with a controlled burn early this spring.
The latest project starts Saturday, July 20, at 9 and ends at 11 a.m.
Volunteers are asked to please bring gloves, proper footwear and anything else that can be used to weed out the invasive species.
The club has a primer on knotweed on its web page, RockportGardenClub.org. Hallowell may contacted at 978-546-2405 for questions about the club’s project and volunteering on July 20.
