Essex Police/Fire: Police clamp down on illegal burn

---- — ESSEX — Police spoke to a homeowner on Cogswell Road Saturday at 7:40 p.m. about having a fire on his property.

Police said the resident was carrying out on an outdoor fire without a permit, and the homeowner extinguished the flames.

Manchester police alerted Essex officers about a possible mattress in the middle of Route 128, Essex officers searched north and south but could not find a mattress Saturday around 7 p.m.

Police said an alarm on a Main Street business sounded Saturday at 6:20 a.m., but responding officers found the alarm had gone off due to an employee error.

Essex police returned a Social Security card recovered in town to a Gloucester resident, it was brought into the Essex station around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Police said a minor car accident with very light damage to vehicles resulted in no injuries Monday at 1:42 a.m. on Main Street.

A number of people were transported by the Essex Fire Department Ambulance Company to Beverly Hospital over the weekend.

On Saturday, a woman on Conomo Point Road was transported just before 8 p.m., while a woman was transported from Story Street at 11:37 p.m.

On Sunday, a patient on Eastern Avenue was transported just before 1 p.m., while, on

Monday, a person was transported from Main Street at 7:09 a.m.
