Chiefs' oath ceremonies set for 5 p.m. today

Michael Lane and Phil Dench, named this spring as Gloucester's interim public safety chiefs, will formally take their oaths of office today during a ceremony set for 5 p.m. in City Hall's Kyrouz Auditorium.

Lane was named by Mayor Carolyn Kirk as interim police chief after the May retirement of four-year Chief John Beaudette, while Dench was named by Kirk to take over the reins of the Fire Department after 26-year Chief Barry McKay retired at the end of March.

Today's ceremony will also include other Police and Fire department personnel who have recently been hired or promoted.

The ceremony is free to the public.
