Boil Order: The Latest

The Boil Order: Today is the 16th day since the state DEP issued the Aug. 21 order for all residents to boil all city water for 1 minute — and food preparers for 5 minutes — before drinking, brushing teeth, cooking, washing dishes or other internal use.

Outdoor Ban Lifted: The city yesterday lifted the outdoor water ban. Bond Hill water levels have been restored, and officials are encouraging residents to resume outdoor water use to help ease the flow of chlorine through the system.

Coliform Hits: Latest tests showed presence of total coliform bacteria in 8 of 36 samples taken Wednesday. City must show 2 consecutive days of "zero" total coliform presence, then undergo a state DEP re-evaluation before order can be lifted. Test results ensure boil order will remain through Labor Day Weekend.

Search for a Cause: City, state DEP and now federal EPA representatives continue to look for cause of the problem, including a damaged beaver dam near Babson Reservoir, potential operator errors, water plant error/failure or other factors.
