How do residents envision the Rockport of the future?
The town's Rockport Planning Board will be holding a workshop Thursday at 7 p.m. to discuss what Rockporters want their town to look like going forward.
Planning Board members say they like to hear from residents about what they think defines the character of the town, what they see as most important to them, and what deserves protection.
The meeting will be held in the Brenner Room of Rockport Public Library.
Haskins history
If you have ever wondered about the history of the defunct Haskins Hospital and property in Rockport, you are invited to a program presented by the Sandy Bay Historical Society.
Gwen Stephenson and Debra Legg will be showing "then and now" photos, and discussing the hospital, as well as sharing information about Leander Haskins, who donated the property. The program will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Rockport Public Library. Snacks will be provided, and there is no charge.
Let the music ring
Old Sloop Coffeehouse will present a performance by the Allen Estes Band on Saturday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Rockport.
Estes is Gloucester singer-songwriter who hosts Cape Ann TV's weekly "Music Scene" program.
The Cape Ann community is also invited to what's being billed as an old-fashioned hymn sing at the First Baptist Church of Rockport.
This free opportunity is a time to sing some of the old hymns of the Christian faith with the help of the Rockport Baptist music and worship teams. The event will take place Sunday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church at 4 High St., Rockport.

Prom season awareness
In time for prom, Rockport High School will be having a presentation on the Massachusetts Social Hosting Law titled "Be A Parent, Not a Pal" on Monday, May , from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
The presentation is sponsored by the Rockport Middle and High School Health Department, Rockport Middle and High School Student Assistance Program, the town's Police Department and the Rockport Parent Teacher Organization.
"Be A Parent, Not a Pal," is a multimedia presentation designed by attorney Richard P. Campbell and the law firm of Campbell Campbell Edwards & Conroy. It is designed to educate parents, teachers, and members of the community about the social host law, and to illustrate the legal consequences of allowing those under the age of 21 to possess alcoholic beverages.
Students are welcome to attend with their parents and, or caregivers. This program is free.
