Bicyclist killed in Hyannis; driver under arrest

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — A 23-year-old Cape Cod woman has pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident after police say she struck and killed a bicyclist overnight.

Angelica Barroso of West Yarmouth was arraigned yesterday in Barnstable District Court. Bail was set at $2,500.

Prosecutors said 20-year-old Sheila Moreta was riding home from her restaurant job in Hyannis when she was struck and killed by a car at about 2 a.m. at the intersection of Route 28 and Pitchers Way.

A person riding along with her told police the car didn't stop. Police said the car's license plate was found at the scene.

Barroso's lawyer said her client tried to call police to report she had hit something, and later went to the police station when she couldn't find a telephone.
