Essex Police/Fire: Essex teen faces drunken driving charge after crash

ESSEX — A 17-year-old Essex girl was arrested on drunken driving charges Thursday night after police say the car she was driving slammed into a utility pole on Southern Avenue in Essex.

Leah Sheridan of 34 Rear Pickering St. was arrested on charges of drunken driving, being a minor in possession of alcohol and driving with an open container of alcohol, according to police.

Sheridan was arrested after the accident and transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital for evaluation, police said. Police said Sheridan appeared to only have minor, superficial injuries.

The utility pole, which Sheridan struck at about 9:57 p.m., snapped at the base, blocking traffic on the road until 9:30 a.m. Friday morning, police said.
