Bench dedication, blood drive on tap

The Friends of the Rockport Council on Aging have donated a bench to the town, which has been installed in Barletta Park.

The bench will be dedicated in a ceremony today at 9:30 a.m. The celebration is happening rain or shine, and the council is serving refreshments in the community room at the Rockport High School Apartments after the dedication.

Holiday blood

and toy drive

The Rockport Navy Committee will sponsor a Holiday Blood Drive at the Rockport Police Station from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1 in conjunction with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH).

This year’s blood drive is dedicated to those who have served and are still serving in the U.S. military. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with written parental permission). Donors older 65 are asked to call 617-726-8171 for special guidelines. Most healthy people over 65 can donate.

For those who cannot give blood, there is another opportunity to help — by donating small stuffed animals, hand-held games and puzzle or crossword books for tweens and teens to be distributed to the children in MGH and at Shriners Hospital, including at the cancer clinics, the Proton Beam Cancer Treatment Center, the newborn and pediatric intensive care units as well as the pediatrics floors. The stuffed animals must be new and 6 to 10 inches.
