---- — ESSEX — Voters at Essex’s Town Meeting Monday night agreed to spend another $50,000 to cover additional legal fees paid to the town’s legal counsel, the Boston-based law firm of Kopelman and Paige.
Town Administrator Brendhan Zubricki said this morning that the town’s attorney has been very busy with Conomo Point issues since July, the start of the new fiscal year.
”There were various tax board appeals, lawsuits, voter registration cases and eviction cases since then,” he said.
Voters Monday night were divided over the issue.
Residents yelled “yay” and “nay” back and forth, until Town Moderator Rolf Madsen finally had to ask voters to stand up for an accurate vote. With that, article passed on a vote of 52-33 for approval.
During the Town Selectman on Monday night, Selectman also signed off on four additional purchase and sale agreements in the Southern section of Conomo point.
Zubricki said the Board of Selectman hopes to have all 39 agreements in the Southern half ready to be sold to tenants by the end of the year. Selectman have already signed off on 34 purchase and sale agreements and deeds.
Other articles that gained voters’ approval last night included $137,000 to fund Town Hall and library improvements, about $15,000 to repair the roof of the fire department and $15,000 appropriated to the town retirement trust fund.
