A Salem man was sentenced to jail time by Judge Joseph Jennings in Gloucester District Court yesterday after pleading guilty to two counts of assault and battery.
Joshua R. Taylor, 24, no known address, Salem, was sentenced to two years in jail with nine months to be served and the balance suspended for two years.
Taylor was arrested in September after he confronted a man and a woman at their apartment on Spring Street and threw them both to the ground, according to police reports.

Wellspring House of Gloucester held its 14th Annual Women Honoring Women Luncheon earlier this month with over 670 in attendance.
This year's honorees were long-time Wellspring volunteer Betsy Brown of Manchester, The Open Door's Executive Director Julie LaFontaine of Essex, and Barbara Lynch, one of Boston's and the country's leading chefs and restaurateurs. Lynch also was the keynote speaker.
With a lower price tag and slightly looser requirements, the Maplewood School building will head back out for bids for the sixth time since the city put it on the block eight years ago.
The schoolhouse picked up one bid the last time the city put it out.
