A Gloucester man was sentenced to jail time by Judge Joseph Jennings after pleading guilty to a pair of theft charges.
Robert F. Capozzi, 31, of 23 Duncan St., Gloucester, was sentenced to one year in jail on two counts of larceny and two counts of receiving stolen property.
The charges against Capozzi stem from an Aug. 19 incident in which he stole car keys from two patrons at the Cape Ann YMCA.
One day earlier, Capozzi had stolen items from a Prospect Street woman's home. According to police reports, Capozzi was staying at the Prospect Street woman's apartment at the time.
Robert J. Jones, 24, of 114 Eastern Point Blvd., Gloucester, was sentenced to five months pretrial probation on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace.
Jones was arrested in August after police were called to Hancock Street for reports of a fight in the street. When police arrived, they reportedly saw Jones carrying a shovel and chasing a man. Two witnesses told police that Jones hit the man with the shovel. Jones admitted hitting the man, but said was self defense and that he was jumped by several men.
An Essex man was sentenced to serve 18 months probation yesterday after he pleaded guilty to assault charges.
Abner Gomez-Mejia, 24, of 11 Southern Ave., Essex, pleaded guilty to charges of assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon. Gomez-Mejia was arrested in September after Essex police say he punched his wife in the face and stomach and threatened her with a knife.
Katelyn G. Durgin, 19, identified as being homeless from Gloucester, had two counts of larceny continued without a finding for six months. The charges against Durgin stem from a July 2008 incident when police said she stole jewelry and a money order from a Gloucester woman.
Alycia M. Mazzeo, 17, of 11 Rosewood Drive, Ipswich, had charges of driving an uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle dismissed upon payment of $150 in court costs. The charges against Mazzeo stem from whenshe was pulled over by Essex police on John Wise Avenue in June for driving with a headlight out.
