Gloucester District Court

A Gloucester man was sentenced to just over two weeks in jail by Judge Joseph Jennings after pleading guilty to one count of receiving a stolen credit card and two counts of improper use of a credit card in Gloucester District Court yesterday.

Eric Oliveira, 26, of 24 Hancock St., Gloucester, was sentenced to six months in jail, with 17 days to be served and the balance suspended for two years. Oliveira was also placed on probation for two years.

The charges against Oliveira stem from a September incident where he was seen on surveillance footage using a credit card stolen from a Gloucester woman's purse at Tedeschi's on Washington Street.

Oliveira also pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges and was sentenced to two years in jail.

Oliveira was arrested Sept.14 after he crashed into a telephone pole on Beacon Street. According to police reports, Oliveira called 911 and told the dispatcher he was drunk and had crashed his car. When police arrived on scene, Oliveira admitted to drinking "way too much."

Joopyo Hong, 26, of 25 Crescent St., Waltham, had a charge of driving with a suspended license dismissed so long as he pays $200 in court costs.

Hong was arrested early yesterday morning by Rockport police after being pulled over on T-Wharf.

Four Gloucester men had disturbing the peace charges dismissed so long as they complete eight hours of community service.

Christopher B. McLaughlin, 27, Joel A. Derechinsky, 21, Andrew J. Kirkaldy, 25, and Dylan Girard, 21, all of 5 Warwick Road, Gloucester, were arrested early Sunday morning after police say they were called to the quartet's apartment twice after 1 a.m. on reports of a loud party going on. According to police reports, officers are frequently called to the residence for noise complaints.
